about

If songwriting is a way of processing the loss of a loved one, then singing about it is a way of surrendering to it. James Deacon’s ‘Calling Home’ is a raw anthem that grips, breaks, and rages only to release you at the end to the possibility of light in death. Written from more than one perspective, and soulfully sung, ‘Calling Home’ is a tribute that pleads with pain, and at its most vulnerable, speaks to the hope of living on in others.

lyrics

Time runs like lines across your face
Chemicals running through your veins
Gathered around you like an altar
Praying to Gods I don't Believe in

How do I see sense in all this pain
When my hero's gone where will I shelter from the rain
Oh I know they're calling you home
Oh I know they're calling you home

‘Cause even when a star burns out you'll see it for a thousand years
I'll live every day for you I'll never let them see my tears
‘Cause even when a star burns out you'll see it for a thousand years
I'll live every day for you I'll never let them see my fears

Don't you be sad about my passing
I was surely born to die on this day
I carried the weight of my life upon my shoulders
Until the day when my legs couldn't hold no more

Oh don't you see all my pain is gone
You will find your way to shelter from the storm
Oh I know they're calling me home
Oh I know they're calling me home

‘Cause even when a star burns out you'll see it for a thousand years
I'll live every day for you I'll never let them see my tears
‘Cause even when a star burns out you'll see it for a thousand years
I'll live every day for you I'll never let them see my fears

But you left the light on
Before you go I want you to know
Forever I am gonna leave the light on
‘Cause even when a star burns out you'll see it for a thousand years
