about

I try to be a positive guy for the most part, but sometimes I have trouble with the cynical, negative Debbie-Downer side of myself. This song came about at around 4:00am, as I stumbled to the kitchen to get some water, the melody and chanted delivery of the opening line for the song came to me and it kinda developed from there. It’s basically the dark side to my latest single “Shine”, because as much as I believe that persistence and positivity are the keys to success, I think a healthy tolerance and understanding of the undesirable aspects of ones mind is just as important. Mr Misery is a metaphor for my bad side, and the song itself is a kind of resilient juxtaposition to my new single.

lyrics

If there was a way
To go back before the day
All the people used to say
Stop following me

X 4

Always fighting for the wrong before the right
Always hiding in the dark without a light
Always wishing you would stay while I’m telling you to go
Always saying things are broken when they’re not
I could practice opposite to what I preach
But that would make a happy ending even farther from my reach
When the world needs a hero I'll be there
Dressed up as the villain I'm right here
And I don't care
I'm sorry no one can save you now

Hey hey look at me
Call me Mr Misery
Looking at the bright side
Always seems to hurt my eyes

Hey actually
You should stay away from me
Take your glass half full
Throw it from the balcony
Throw it from the balcony

You're just another false prophet
Selling lies from your pocket
You're just another false prophet
Selling lies from your pocket

It’s so dark on my side of the street
Breaking windows in the mid summer heat

Folded chairs on the burial ground around us
Getting ready for the moment they finally find us
Empty rooms
Echo the sound of voices

I can hear them saying
I'm sorry no one can save you now
Hey hey look at me
Call me Mr Misery
Looking at the bright side
Always seems to hurt my eyes

Hey actually
You should stay away from me
Take your glass half full
Throw it from the balcony
Throw it from the balcony

You're just another false prophet
Selling lies from your pocket
You're just another false prophet
Selling lies from your pocket

Hey hey look at me
Call me Mr Misery
Looking at the bright side
Always seems to hurt my eyes

Hey actually
You should stay away from me
Take your glass half full
Throw it from the balcony
Throw it from the balcony
Throw it from the balcony

You're just another false prophet
Selling lies from your pocket
You're just another false prophet
